British Midland Airways

British Midland Airways Limited, trading as 'bmi', is the second largest scheduled airline in the United Kingdom. Based in Donington Hall, close to East Midlands Airport, the airline flies from Manchester and London Heathrow airports to 38 destinations across Europe, the United States, the Caribbean and the Middle East.

With a relatively small fleet of around 40 aircraft, bmi nevertheless operates over 2000 flights a week and uses over 10% of London Heathrow's take-off and landing slots.

In January 2007, bmi bought British Mediterranean Airways, heralding the introduction of a wider range of destinations in Africa and the Middle East.
