Lufthansa (based in Cologne, Germany) is one of the largest air passenger, cargo and airline services in Europe and the sixth largest in the world. It was founded in1926, and today operates services to nearly 200 destinations in 100 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
UK destinations served by Lufthansa include London City, London Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Lufthansa was the first airline to fly pioneering routes to the Far East and across the Atlantic. Its fleet boasts more than 250 aircraft ' set to swell in 2009 with the addition of 15 new Airbus craft.
