Navigating London by car can be thrillingly amusing, as crooked alleyways and main roads intertwine throughout the city. A fairly recent quirk to add the adventure is the congestion zone in the city centre, which carries an £8 price tag for drivers from 7am to 6pm on weekdays.
Once you've got wheels, there's plenty to see outside of London too, including seaside cities such as Brighton and Portsmouth, country stops in Buckinghamshire, and the famous, ever-pretty, university towns of Oxford and Cambridge. You could also head west to Wales and the south-west of England, with vibrant Bristol within three hours and Cardiff around four.
